History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during the year 1919. The company was initially established by Anton Raky, an engineer. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The company's original name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid during the year 1937, when the Salzgitter Group obtained a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling equipment.
