Forklift Accident Statistics:
OSHA, that is responsible for monitoring workplace safety, reports on the occurrence of forklift accidents. On average, every three days somebody is killed in a forklift accident in the US. Approximately 95,000 injuries occur in forklift related accidents each and every year. The vast majority of these accidents could have been avoided if proper safety measures had been followed. There are even websites committed to reporting stories of forklift mishaps.
Both businesses and individuals suffer as a result of forklift accidents. There are numerous reasons why employers must take steps to reduce the risk. One of the biggest reasons is to prevent risk of lawsuits if someone is hurt. Secondly, mishaps cut down on working time. Thirdly, property and goods can be damaged during accidents. Most mishaps are attributed to staff who are not correctly trained. Employers are responsible for making sure that all employees who are using the forklift are trained in safety and risks. Never let anybody on a forklift who isn't trained to operate the forklift. Your business must develop and post in a location which is visible all forklift safety procedures.
Instead of going through training because workers are required to, they should have a positive attitude in doing so. You as the employer should help staff understand the significance of correct training. Let them understand that they can kill or injure not only themselves, but other individuals, if they make mistakes. It is up to you to make certain that all your staff go through training seriously.
