Tower Crane Parts
Tower cranes enable the construction industry to make several amazing structures. These cranes have been designed to reach ever-increasing heights. Tower cranes provide the way to raise and transport tools, building parts and supplies all over a construction site. There are a few different components which assemble a tower crane once they are put together. Putting a tower crane together utilizes various pieces of construction equipment.
Base
The tower crane base is normally made from a steel unit. The units' base connects to a custom pad made of concrete. This kind of set-up gives the structure stability. Overall, the construction has to be well engineered and built in order to operate at optimum safety.
Mast
The mast of the tower crane provides height to the equipment. The mast is made of connected steel parts. The amount of parts determines the crane's height. Typically, a tower crane has a design which allows the mast to grow during construction by adding further parts as the building process goes on. This way the height of the crane can be specified, ensuring it has enough height to perform the needed work efficiently and safely.
Slewing Unit/Top Climber
Over the mast is the slewing unit. It houses the motor and machinery that allows the crane to rotate. A top climber is the piece of machinery which allows the mast to grow. The top climber sits just below the slewing unit. Hydraulic rams inside the top climber allow the slewing unit to be disconnected from the mast by raising it higher.
Boom
"Boom" is a term which specifically refers to the tower crane's working arm. The boom is made of steel sections connected together, which extend out from the top of the slewing unit, parallel to the ground. There is a trolley connected to the bottom that could extend the length of the boom. This trolley holds the hoisting device.
