Lift Truck Components in More Detail
A lift truck is made of numerous components. The key components which make up a lift truck are the frame of the truck, the engine components, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. Moreover, a forklift consists of a variety of attachments. All the parts making up a forklift are of equal importance as they work together to make the functions of the machine possible. The subsequent paragraphs describe a few of the lift truck components in detail.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits over the cab area and protects the machinery operator whilst he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck will damage the controls in the cab or harm the driver. The overhead guard is integral to the frame assembly on various models.
The Mast - Mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle, the mast is the vertical lift truck part made of interlocking rails. The mast allows the forks to move up and down whilst providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails may either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast could be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Forklift Carriage - The carriage is the part which the forks and other attachments are mounted to. Actually, the carriage is directly attached to the hydraulic cylinder and is connected by chains. To allow the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage may have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack which prevents a load from falling backwards when the carriage is lifted to its full height. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - a range of attachments may be fixed to the front of the forklift truck. The most common kind of attachment is forks. In addition, there are L-shaped members, rotators, rollers, roll clamps, pole handlers and and all that. These different kinds of attachments are useful for moving different kinds of loads.
